Dara O'Briain

Dara O'Briain is an Irish stand-up comedian and television presenter, widely recognised as the host of BBC 2's Mock the Week, and in Ireland for hosting RTE 2's The Panel.

He is one the few performers to host successful comedy shows in both the UK and Ireland at the same time. He started his career in television as a children's presenter on RTÉ whilst performing his first stand-up gigs on the Irish comedy circuit, but his first big break in UK television came in 2003 when he became host of BBC2's Live Floor Show. This led to an appearance as a guest and, ultimately, four appearances as guest host of the popular news quiz, Have I Got News For You.

He moved to the UK and began working on the British circuit full-time. His show sold out the entire run in Edinburgh in 2002, a feat he was to repeat for the next three years. By 2005, he was the biggest selling solo stand-up on the Edinburgh Fringe. In 2006, he conducted his third and largest national tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland. This included 66 shows across the UK as well as 9 nights sold out in Dublin.

He won Best Headline Act at the 2003 and 2004 Chortle Awards as well as being nominated for 'Best Full-length Show'. He recently won Chortle Best Theatre Show 2008 and can now be seen hosting the comedy panel game Mock the Week, a mixture of Have I Got News For You? and Whose Line is it Anyway?, as well as touring the UK doing stand-up gigs.

His sense of humour is warm and genial, he rarely likes to break boundaries with material (once cringing as he delivered a Madeline McCann joke), preferring to use inoffensive, topical jokes and observations. It's textbook comedy, confidently delivered and it never fails to produce laughs.
