Ivor Dembina

Anglo Jewish comedian Ivor Dembina is renowned for covering controversial subjects in his sets (didn't think you could joke about the Holocaust?) which doesn't always go down well as you might imagine.  He began compering in the 90's at the Comedy Store in Soho on Saturdays and introduced the idea of holding shows on week nights to attract more punters.

His material centres on Jewish culture and politics - his first solo show, Stand Up Jewish Comedy was about his life as a Jew brought up in north London, his second show SadoJudaism, was a Jewish take on festishism and his most documented show This is Not a Subject for Comedy was a comic account of his work as a peace volunteer on the West Bank, culminating in a scary altercation with the Israeli army.

His stories tend to be stronger than his quick fire gags and his pace can be a bit confused but he is an expert at handling the audience - a result of many years hosting the Hampstead Comedy Club and never fails to get them on side.
