Mancunian comic Jason Manford had a meteoric rise to fame on the comedy circuit after starting out at the tender age of 17. As a bottle-washer in Manchester comedy club The Buzz, his lucky break came after several comedians failed to turn up and he was asked to step in, receiving a warm response.
He went onto the open mic circuit and quickly won loads of awards including: The 1999 North West City Life Comedian of the Year Award, the 2000 Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year Award, the 2005 Writers Guild Award and the 2006 Chortle Award for Best Breakthrough Act. More notably however, he received a nomination for the coveted Perrier Award for his show
Urban Legend in 2005, but not before returning to university to do a script-writing and acting course, recommended by Peter Kay.
He also hosted the breakfast radio show on XFM Manchester until May 2008 and the
Tonightly show on Channel 4 which finished in August of the same year. His first big UK Tour,
Jason Manford 2008, started in September and was so successful it was extended. He is currently a team captain on Channel 4's topical panel show
8 Out of 10 Cats, hosted by Jimmy Carr.
He is a genial performer with a lot of funny anecdotes, usually about anything that he finds particularly funny like his narcoleptic Dad or his football club Man City. He never cuts a performance short taking time after his shows for question and answer sessions with the audience.
