Joanna Neary can afford to be a little smug. Her first Edinburgh appearance in 2004 led to an Perrier Best Newcomer nomination and ever since she has been a big name on the circuit, appearing on TV for Armando Ianucci's
Time Trumpet, alongside Stewart Lee in
Fist of Fun and
This Morning With Richard Not Judy and more recently as Judith in the Johnny Vegas sitcom
Ideal.
The show for which she was nominated,
Joanna Neary Is Not Feeling Herself, was comprised of a series of different characters from a dolphin to an evil cat called Mr Timpkins, and a liberal drummer from 'The Bongs of Hope Collective'. Each character is as bizarre as the next and the comedy is mostly innocent and surreal humour - you get the feeling she had a very imaginative childhood. She is clearly multi-talented; dancing acting, singing and being funny all in the same show and it's no wonder she has risen through the ranks so quickly.
