Young rising star Joe Lycett won the Chortle Student Comedy Award at just 20. His easy stage manner and whimsical observations embody the new generation of British stand-up at its best.
While studying drama at Manchester University, Lycett grew tired of acting and decided to give comedy a go one night at the Comedy Store. The rest is history - he has gone on to be a finalist in half a dozen new act competitions, winner of two, and regularly tours the UK with his material. He has appeared in over 70 slots at the Edinburgh Fringe, no mean feat for someone who only graduated university in 2009.
Lycett's endearing style ranges from highlighting some of the more ridiculous reviews of William Shakespeare on Amazon, to musings on his time as a theatre bartender. He tends to focus on observational stand-up as he feels comedy should be an extension of the individual's own experiences.
