John Bishop

Having bravely quit a job in marketing to go into stand-up, Liverpudlian comedian John Bishop is doing pretty well. Having performed for the first time in 2000, he then made it to the final of all the major new act competitions the following year, including So You Think You're Funny?, the Daily Telegraph Open Mic Awards and the BBC New Comedy Awards and the City Life North West Comedian of The Year Award, which he won. Recently, he been nominated for the most coveted award of all in the UK, the Edinburgh Comedy Award, for his mid-life crisis-themed show: Elvis Has Left The Building.

His material centres around his life, as a working-class father, ex-nightclub doorman and ex-footballer for his beloved team Liverpool FC. The topics can tend to be humdrum stuff but somehow Bishop manages to squeeze every bit of humour possible from everyday situations and deliver lines with charm and panache.
