John Shuttleworth, a retired security guard-turned-singer/songwriter from Sheffield is the popular character creation of comedian Graham Fellows and the star of several BBC Radio 4 shows.
His songs tend to be dramatic numbers performed on his Yamaha synthesiser with banal lyrics like the power ballad 'Can't Go Back To Savoury Now ' which involves him being offered some Shepherd's Pie when he's already started his pudding. The comedy of Shuttleworth is often his self-belief in his pop career but lack of any actual talent.
Fellows has also created many supporting characters to John, including his wife Mary Shuttleworth, and next-door neighbour and useless manager Ken Worthington, who came last on the TV talent show New Faces in 1973. They have all featured on several radio shows, including
The Shuttleworths,
Shuttleworth's Showtime and
Radio Shuttleworth.
