Luke Wright has had an explosive start to his career as a comic poet. In 2006, his Edinburgh debut show,
Luke Wright, Poet Laureate, was a big hit, receiving a whole host of 5 star reviews and leading on to a 20 date national tour.
His 2007 show,
Luke Wright, Poet and Man won him the 4Talent Award and 'Spirit of The Fringe' Award and was hailed as a more grown up and contemplative show. Wright is a clear supporter of putting more on offer at festivals; founding Aisle16, Glastonbury's Cabaret Stage and curating and hosting the Latitude Festival's Poetry Arena. He also has his own 2 day festival in Edinburgh.
His modern take on poetry, using popular culture and personal stories for material and performing it in a rap-like rhythm, is so clever and well-delivered, you can't fail to be utterly absorbed by it and his stand-up isn't bad either. He is clearly multi-talented; he's written a script for an animated short film and a book,
Who Writes This Crap?, with friend Joel Stickley which takes a humourous look at all the spam and general nonsense we read in publications each day. However, he really comes into his own when reading his own poetry, an awe-inspiring performance of wit, energy and rhythm that has to be seen live to get the full impact.
