A former heroin addict, now clean for 20 years, Mike Gunn has, as you might imagine, a dry and at times dark sense of humour coupled with some very interesting stories. In 2003, he abandoned the character of undertaker that he debuted at the Fringe (taken from a real former job) and did an intimate stand-up show 'Uncut' about his nine years as a full-blown addict, revealing some disturbing details of what happened to him alongside some very funny ones.
The show was a hit and he has since traveled to many of the top comedy venues in the UK and performed internationally in Hong Kong, Ireland, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, where he completed a five week sell-out season. He has also worked in schools giving anti-drugs talks which have been highly popular.
Gunn's style is usually cynical observations and annoyances with the everyday. He is a self-confessed pessimist describing himself as "not a natural choice for a career in laughter". His jokes don't aren't always the most original or reduce the audience into hysterics but he never fails to entertain an audience and is always warmly received.
