Young Jewish comic Miriam Elia has gone from strength to strength since she started out on the stand-up circuit a few years ago.
She won the BBC new talent competition Witty and Twisted for her first ever show,
A Series Of Psychotic Episodes, which was then recorded for BBC7 in 2007 and consequently earned her a Sony radio award nomination. As a relatively unheard of comedian at the time, being nominated alongside the likes of Paul Whitehouse, Mark Thomas and Mitchell and Webb was a big achievement. Elia also won Channel 4's Gags To Go short film competition for newcomers with
Cockface, about an alcoholic robotic rabbit that has a shuttlecock for a nose.
As well as popping up on the stand-up circuit every now and then, Elia is also a freelance graphic designer and writes comedy scripts for the BBC.
