Since his Perrier nomination in '98, Paul Foot has won several awards including the BBC Comedy Award, the Daily Telegraph Stand Up Comedy Award. He has also been seen on numerous TV shows including Edinburgh and Beyond, The World Stands Up, FAQ-U and Rob Brydon's Annually Retentive.
It is however, his live stand-up which which he is most praised for and which could probably best be described as alternative or subversive. You will either love him or hate him; he divides the audience into loud cacklers and silent straight-facers.
He has a bumbling posh persona which adds to the quirkiness of his act and is endearing enough to allow him to get away with pure silliness on occasion. You never really know what you'll get with Foot either, he might be discussing his aversion to 'Baby on Board' car stickers one minute and telling you a long story about watermelons the next.
In 2006, Foot started a regular solo variety night in London London called Paul Foot's Comedy for Connoisseurs (named after his fans: The Guild of Paul Foot Connoisseurs). Events were listed only on his website and through mailing lists, ensuring only fans would attend. When his popularity grew following television appearances in 2010, Foot arranged a "Secret Secret Show", unlisted on his website, for his most dedicated fans.
