Big Phill originally worked in a job centre where he began writing political poetry and drawing cartoons to alleviate the boredom. After five years he left to become a performance poet, called Porky The Poet and supported left-wing musicians such as Billy Bragg and the Housemartins.
He then landed a job working for Bragg's label Go! Discs and briefly worked as tour manager for The Housemartins. Music turned to comedy as he fell into stand-up and performed his first ever UK tour, the Star-Wars-themed Jedi, Steady, Go in 1996. The same year, Jupitus got his big break landing a job on BBC2's pop quiz show Never Mind The Buzzcocks, hosted by Mark Lamarr and has been a team captain on it ever since.
As well as appearing on a number of other TV panel shows, Jupitus has presented radio shows, starred in sitcoms, appeared in the West End and regularly performs improv for The Comedy Store Players at the Comedy Store. It's safe to say he's a fairly multi-talented man.
