Rhod Gilbert

Welsh comic Rhod Gilbert began as quite a surreal act, weaving tall stories from his imagination that included a tale about his childhood in the village of Llanbobl and incidences Christmas games of Buckaroo using a ferret tied to a cheeseboard. He was nominated for a Perrier Award in 2005 for the show 1984, all about his life in Llanbobl (he actually grew up in Carmarthen).

His act has since matured and while it still retains a few surreal elements, it is now mostly shorter anecdotes and observations, such as what happened to his bag on a flight to Australia or his response to adverts for army chefs. Each joke is drawn out brilliantly, so that the situation builds up to a climax, somewhat akin to Stewart Lee but without the deadpan slow delivery. A stand-out comedian who just gets better and better.
