After starting off as one half of the comedy duo Lee and Herring, Richard gained further success as a writer and performer with radio shows such as
Lionel Nimrod's Inexplicable World and
Fist of Fun, the latter becoming a popular BBC2 comedy series. He went on to co-develop
This Morning with Richard Not Judy, a live comedy TV series as well as 37 episodes of
Time Gentleman Please, a sitcom he wrote with Al Murray.
His theatre credits include writing and starring in several plays including
Punk's Not Dead, Excavating Rita and
It's Not The End Of The World. His last few solo shows
Oh Fuck I'm 40! and
The Headmaster's Son sold out almost every night at the Fringe and with good reason. Herring is now regarded as one of the best comedians on the circuit and if only the likes of him and Lee were on our tellies instead of most of the talentless muppets with prime-time slots the world would be a better place. That said, his humour is probably a little too edgy and smart for your garden variety audience so for now we'll have to make do with getting off our sofas and going to his gigs.
