Tim Minchin

Tim Minchin is an Australian musician, actor, comedian and writer. He hit the big time in 2005 with his show Dark Side which won the prestigious Perrier Best Newcomer Award and the Melbourne Festival Director's Award.

His debut at Edinburgh was one of the most successful ever, selling out the entire 300-seat Debating Hall and culminating in a London run at West End theatres the Soho and Lyric Theatre. He has had sell-out shows all over Australia and played the title roles in Hamlet and Amadeus (Perth Theatre Co) and Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar. In 2007 he made his feature debut in Two Fists, One Heart, a drama filmed and set in Perth and contributed to the script and soundtrack of the film.

Minchin's whimsical songs always have a good tune behind them (not surprising as he is also in a band called Timmy The Dog) and lighthearted subjects - even the ones that appear to be serious are tongue-in-cheek, for example the lyrics to 'Peace Anthem to Palestine'  are: "You don't eat pigs and we don't eat pigs so why not not we eat them together?" An outstanding musical comic.
