What started as a joke, just one name in a long list of comedy European names, has become a globally known moniker and highly acclaimed DJ career for Barclay Crenshaw - or as you probably know him - Claude VonStroke.
After a brief career in film, Crenshaw decided to merge his passion for electronic music and movies by releasing 'Intellect' - a six hour DVD package, self-directed and produced, exploring the electronic music scene and including interviews with top producers and DJs like Derrick May, Derrick Carter, Dubfire and Theo Parrish.
The goal of the DVD was to assist would-be DJs on their path to success. Ironically Crenshaw took lessons from his own film and started a label called Dirtybird.
The label has become known as a top American tech funk outlet, with Crenshaw's own productions recieving plaudits from Richie Hawtin and his track 'Who's Afraid of Detroit?' being dubbed Best track of 2006 by DJ Mag. His album 'Beware Of The Bird' is a brilliant, underground piece of work with plenty of his trademark cuts.
He unveiled a deeper techno wing to his Dirtybird imprint called Motherbird, which features a euro-centric side - and includes Italoboyz Maetrik and Catz 'n Dogz on its books.
The outdoor Dirtybird parties at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco have become a focal point for international ravers. This one included.
