Duke Vin was the first man in Britain to set up a touring soundsystem. Literally the first. Before tht he worked with Tom the Great Sebastien on the very first Jamaican soundsystem. as such he is a hero in the history of reggae music.
Playing ska and calypso in th late 1940s, Duke Vin started a craze that changed the history of the island of Jamaica, and made it one of the epicentres of world music. It was from these beginnings that the island became the home of rocksteady, reggae, dub and dancehall.
Duke Vin is still with us and still jealously guards the white label releases in his box when he plays DJ sets. More than a man, he is an icon in musical history.
