Flying Lotus

Flying Lotus is Californian producer now signed to Warp, often fêted (slightly inexplicably) for his family connection to the late Alice Coltrane. As it goes, his music, a cosmic, unconventional take on hip-hop, is more than able to stand up for itself.

Reminding of Madlib, J Dilla and Dabrye, hazy ambiance and off-kilter, vintage-sounding jazz and funk licks are marks of his loose sound – as are expertly clumsy, clattering beats. It's possible that this man smokes a lot of shit, but then maybe not.
