Widely considered to be the originator of Detroit techno (and, by proxy, techno in general), Juan Atkins grew up in that very city alongside fellow-innovators Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson (know to nerds as the 'Belleville Three').
Atkins' productions are cited as some of the most important in the history of electronic music. He has recorded under many aliases - Model 500, Infiniti and Cybotron, to name but a few - and cites futurist author Alvin Toffler as an inspiration.
Still going strong after all these years, watch out for him tearing up a club/festival near you!
