Laurent Garnier
Legendary French producer and DJ whose ten hour sets 'for the love of music' make London the envy of the world when he plays out. Laurent is very much an Anglophile and didn't begin DJ'ing until he was living in Manchester in the early 90s. It was here that he discovered an aptitude for beat mixing and began playing at raves, mixing hard acid house and techno with classic house tracks and some jazzier, more noticeably French stuff - they loved him.
Laurent was a 'superstar DJ' almost from day one, making a point of playing as many exotic locations as he could - but he always came back to the rave scene in the UK. It was his legendary sets at The Hacienda that inspired the Happy Mondays and the Stone Roses to put dance beats into their indie rock.
Laurent has a very eclectic, sophisticated taste and has made it his mission over the past two decades to widen the horizons of his crowd as he lifts them up. He plays all over the world but also has a residency at The End where the round DJ booth and crisp sound system provide a suitable pulpit for his musical message.
Expect very few nostalgia trips from Laurent, even in a ten hour set he is likely to keep pushing the boundaries with brand new electronica, spare techno and luscious French house that gets sent to him direct from the "vaults de tres cool" in the Paris ghettos.
