Luke Slater was born in Reading in 1968, the year of Mungo Jerry (one of Lukes glam rock heroes.) At the age of four Luke began his obsession with music listening to his fathers large collection gramophone records. Although his father wasn't a musician, he loved music especially big bands and orchestras and Luke happily grew up listening to it. By the age of six, Luke was playing the drums and the piano and thus his music career began.
By 1988, Luke was fully immersed in the house scene, DJing at London's Troll on a regular basis and in 1989 he put out his first record, Freebase. Through the early to mid nineties, Slaters palette grew ever broader and kept his musical skills refined and evolving all the time. In 1997, he signed to Novamute and released his first album, 'Freefunk'. This has been his strongest to date and was hailed as a groundbreaking masterpiece. In 2002 he changed record label and signed to Mute, releasing another album, 'Alright on Top'. This saw him moving from the underground to a more commercial based sound.
In 2006 Slater finds himself at the helm of his own record label Mote-Evolver. He now has new releases lined up and is tirelessly honing his skill and continually working the crowd and ever developing new sounds.
