Chris Manak is Peanut Butter Wolf - American DJ, hip hop producer and founder of
Stones Throw Records.
He adopted his awesome name in the late 80's when he realised that a girlfriends younger brother feared the 'peanut butter wolf monster' more than death itself.
Wolf began recording in '89 with counterpart Charizma and within 3 years had signed a contract with Hollywood basic alongside Organized Konfusion and
DJ Shadow. They performed live with groups like
The Pharcyde, House Of Pain and Nas before his partner Charizma was tragically shot dead on a mugging in '93.
His instrumental LP - 'The Peanut Butter Breaks' led to work with
Q-Bert,
Cut Chemist and Rob Swift and much demand for Wolf's production skills.
He formed Stones Throw Records in '96, launching the label with first single 'My World premiere' by Charizma. Wolf has moved away from producing now, but still tours extensively as a DJ, building the Stones Throw label.
