Outstanding minimal techno and microhouse producer and DJ who is probably the top ranked techno dj in the world. His final curtain DJ set at Sonar 2006 (alongside Richie Hawtin) was the best set we’ve ever taken in, and at eleven am he was distraught when they turned the sound off after six solid hours in the growing heat.
Ricardo is a Chilean who grew up in Germany following the Pinochet coup against Allende, learning a love of electronic production from his adopted homeland. In particular, Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode were his favourites. Villalobos takes technical production and marries it to the soft heart of slow Latin music to produce spare but beautiful sound-scapes of slow-burning techno intensity.
After setting up an ambient techno label that was a total failure and resigning himself to a life of obscure parties and ‘acquired taste’ status, the rest of the world caught on and Ricardo’s brand of light, beautiful music catapulted him to the top of the electronic music scene.
A producer of extraordinary breadth and talent and one of the nicest, most crowd pleasing DJs you will see perform.
