The Glimmers

Back in 1987, by the age of 17, the Glimmers were DJing for Ghent's youth every weekend, adding the early hypnotic rhythms of Electronic Body Music to their alluring mix, and attempting strange and experimental sounds like that coming from the city's Boccaccio club. They played every Saturday marathon sessions from 10pm till 8am; New Beat, Electronic Body Music, early Acid House, Rare Disco, Pop, New Wave and classic Seventies Rock was the soundtrack. As the 90s dawned Mo and Benoelie were playing all over Belgium, spreading the futuristic sounds that were emanating from Chicago and later Detroit as well as the experimental elec- tronica of UK. But even then they had no truck with musical fascism, their primary objective being all about the dancefloor and its perpetual motion. The decade progressed and the majority of DJs began to drift down specific roads, but the direction they took was always the road less travelled and never shut themselves off from any styles of music, that every blend, every genre, every movement was theirs for the taking. Their amalgamation of New Beat, Funk, Dub, House, Techno, Party Hip Hop, New Wave and edgy Post-Punk Disco was a revelation to those bored of linear mix albums. It slayed the UK, as did its three follow up releases. Since then, remixes are made for Bloc Party, The Killers, New Order, Frank Popp Ensemble, Roxy Music, Isolee, Phoenix. Today the Glimmers are DJing all over the globe, from Sao Paolo to Barcelona, from Moscow to Amsterdam, from Ghent to Tokyo and back again.
