Regularly voted 'Number 1 DJ in the World' by the likes of Mixmag and DJ Mag, Tiesto was the first DJ to play live at an Olympic games ceremony, in front of billions of people.
With countless awards and accolades under his belt (his remix of 'Delirium' featuring Sarah McLachlan was the first house track ever broadcast on daytime radio in North America), Tiesto has now become a mainstream act, having swapped dingy clubs for the bright lights of the stadium. Indeed, he was the first DJ in the world to sell out a solo stadium event for over 25,000 people. His gigs are well programmed affairs with special effects and visuals created by an art team based in Canada.
So has all the fame, kudos and adulation gone to the Dutch DJ's head? When interviewed by Radio One at Creamfields 2009, he said of his first foray into arena gigs: "I was playing a lot of festivals back in the day in Holland. There was this one called Innercity, and they asked all the people who came into the festival 'who did you come to see?' Most of them said Tiesto. So then we decided to just do a show where I play from start to finish as it makes more sense if the people want to see me for two hours or six hours. Then we decided to do Tiesto in Concert... My first ever gig was in The End. Now I can sell out Victoria Park." What a humble guy!
Having started off as a trance DJ, his act has now evolved to encompass all kinds of music. You are just as likely to hear a Red Hot Chilli Peppers track in one of his sets now as you are to hear Chicane.
Whatever you think of the man, you can't deny he puts on a good show. Just don't forget - he was the first DJ ever to perform at the opening ceremony of the Olympic games. He hasn't.
No upcoming events. Do you know one we've missed? We'd love for you to let us know!
