At some point since his 50th Birthday in 2009, Westwood has stopped being a ludicrous figure of fun and taken up the status of loveable buffoon. Hell, he's almost a national treasure.
The man is completely ludicrous of course, with probably the most annoying, self inflated accomplishment his cack-handed presentation of UK MTV's Pimp My Ride. God, it sucks! He's also famous for being shot in a drive by. Possibly by his agent.
As anybody who listens to his Radio 1 show, buys his compilations or has seen him DJ will tell you, he's actually amazing. A brilliant DJ with a network so deep in UK and US hip hop that you can be guaranteed 'heavy hit after heavy hit' whenever he plays. He knows his stuff inside out and has been a consistent champion of hip hop since day one.
Anybody who can get Ice Cube and Ice T in the same studio and have them both giggling like kids by doing a shout out to 'my man Wayne, keeping it real in Milton Keynes Kentucky Fried Chicken' deserves respeck.
