Tokimonsta
Tokimonsta (real name Jennifer Lee) is a DJ/producer from L.A. whose sound defies instant classification. In simple terms, she makes electronic music inspired primarily by hip-hop and soul.
Toki could be considered part of the emerging West Coast 'glitch-hop' movement, which has many similarities with the more experimental side of dubstep in the UK - namely, an electronic approach to hip-hop-derived beats and a focus on instrumentation over vocals. Similar artists include Glitch Mob, Mochipet, Dam-Funk, Nosaj Thing and Lazer Sword.
Toki was recently signed to Ramp Recordings in the UK and an EP is likely to be forthcoming. A label showcase at Lightbox in November 2009 proved successful.
