Iconic producer and remix artist Trevor Jackson was the owner and manager of Output Records, the single most influential independent label in the nu rave scene.
Jackson would give his (and Output's) backing to anything from the raw UK hip hop of Unkle to the indie/electroclash edginess of The Rapture... as long as it was good. This eclectic openess to rave and indie culture influenced all his collaborators and surely shaped the post iPod melange of musical cultures in this country.
Those collaborators included Soulwax, Stereo MCs, LCD Soundsystem, Blackstrobe, Four Tet, Skull Dead Combo, Fridge, Icarus and Gramme. Output recordings was extremely influential in the growth of the DFA/nu rave scene, especially as journalists and radio jocks recognised Jackson's ear and instinct were on the money.
Output collapsed in 2006 and Jackson was left embittered and impoverished having received scant thanks and little cash from acts like LCD Soundsystem who went on to greatness. However, he still plays their records. Music comes first for Trevor and always has.
If you get a chance to see him DJ, you should. His back catalogue is like a history of good underground and innovative indie dance... and his new stuff is still incredibly fresh and diverse.
