Catherine Yass
Catherine Yass is an English artist best known for her works in video and photography. Her subject matter is highly varied, encompassing Spitalfields Market, a mental hospital, toilets, steel mills, and Bolywood stars.
A recent exhibition at Alison Jacques saw Yass present a film concerned with China's controversial Three Gorges Dam - an incredible engineering feat, but one that will force 1.3 million to leave their homes. Monumental in scale this film conveyed a sense of admiration for mankind's greatest achievements, whilst simultaneously providing a meditation on their inherent dangers.
