Along with his brother Maurice, Charles Saatchi founded advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi in 1970, which became by 1986 the largest in the world. Prominent campaigns included Silk Cut cigarettes and the "Labour isn't Working" slogan for Thatcher's Tories.
Saatchi is of most interest to us at Spoonfed for his patronage of the art world and in particular the YBA movement of the early to mid 90s. He has bought many works by the likes of
Hirst and the
Chapman brothers and sold them on often at vast profit.
His latest gallery, the modestly titled
Saatchi Gallery situated in Sloane Square opens in Spring 2008. He's also, rather oddly perhaps, married to Nigella Lawson.
