Cornelia Parker's works are concerned with the nature of materials and processes of production and destruction. Objects are used in forms that either preempt their designated purpose, or brutalise them, exposing the fragility and transience of the labours of man's hand.
Having reached an uncalled-for level of national notoriety through her 1997 nomination for the Turner Prize, Parker has continued to defy her critics, among whom the Stuckists stand strongest. She is, although hardly a member of the controversial YBA gang, an artist of great significance on the contemporary British art scene.
