Liliane Lijn has had a pretty cool life: she hung out with the Surrealists in the '50s, was at the first 'happenings' in the '60s, and even found time in the '80s to do a spot of modelling for Issey Miyake.
But she's also an artist. For her 2008 show at Riflemaker, she fiddled about with cosmic dust particles and a substance called 'Aerogel'. This stuff is 99% air and it filters light through the particles of stardust, thereby radiating an eerie blue haze. These sculptures were simultaneously futuristic and organic, technical and spiritual: it was a fascinating exhibition.
