London-based artist Mark McGowan has made quite a name for himself in recent years with a succession of what David C West of Decima Gallery described affectionately as 'ridiculous performance pieces'.
He's eaten foxes and corgis, sat in a bath full of beans in defence of the Full English, and - most famously - in 2005 he turned a tap on in a gallery in Camberwell and threatened to leave it on for a whole year in protest against water leakages. They had to turn it off when faced with legal action from Thames Water.
He's one of those artists who is adept at garnering media attention - in fact, one gets the impression a large part of what he does is simply designed to be newsworthy. But he's quite funny and interesting: you've got to be thankful that there's somebody willing to do these kinds of things.
