Martin Creed

Martin Creed is best known as the artist who won the Turner Prize in 2001 for an empty room in which the lights went on and off every now and again.

For Creed the creative process is very much one of indecision: as an artist he feels the desire to create but continuously doubts the merits of whatever it is that he is creating. Despite the apparently cold and abstract nature of his work, Creed insists that it is primarily emotional: it is about, as he puts it himself, "'wanting to communicate and wanting to say 'hello'".
