Peter Blake

Sir Peter Blake is probably still best known as the artist who designed the album cover for the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

But he has done far more than one album cover: working with painting, drawing and collage, Blake's work is often chock full of references to art history and popular culture.

Alongside David Hockney, he emerged in the 1950s as probably one of Britain's best loved artists. Like Hockney, his work manages to both interesting and innovative whilst retaining a playful and almost child-like sense of fun and joy.
