There's something of a creative streak in the Absolon family: John Absolon was a well-known Victorian watercolourist, Alfred produced wartime sketches and a variety of writings, and Peter is a talented figurative painter.
Continuing in this vein is Philip Absolon, one of the co-founders of Stuckism. He paints three main subject: skeletons, cats, and blonde women. His work is often darkly politicised: even the cat pictures seem imbued with something almost troubling.
