Richard Hamilton

Sometimes credited as the creator of the first work of Pop Art, Richard Hamilton is one of the leading figures of British art in the Twentieth Century. Working mainly with painting and collage, Hamilton's work is characterized by its stripped down composition, bright flat colours and an obsession with youth, glamour, transience and advertising.

Having also designed the cover for the White Album, taught Brian Ferry, and discovered Peter Blake and David Hockney, Hamilton's influence across many aspects of popular culture is practically unsurpassed.

Richard Hamilton died in September 2011.
