Stephen Gill

Born in 1971, Stephen Gill is today one of Britain's most celebrated photographers.

Although he has taken portraits of the likes of Chris Ofili, Lisa Stansfield, Hugo Speer and Ron Mueck that now hang in the National Portrait Gallery, Gill is probably best known for his detailed documentation of the bland, the everyday and the otherwise overlooked.

Gill's photography conveys a delight in the kind of boring non-events that nobody else would notice. But somehow he imbues these images with a heart-warming and childlike (but not naive) enthusiasm for the tiniest little detail. His fascinating observational snaps of people lost on London are a case in point.
