The Chapman Brothers

Jake and Dinos Chapman are kind of like the YBA Gilbert & George in that they work almost exclusively with each other. Referencing work by the likes of Goya, William Blake, and Rodin, the Chapman Brothers often utilise confrontational imagery: pornography, torture, mutilation, Nazism and death.

The Chapman brothers' work often features dolls, mannequins or other human-esque models which are distorted or manipulated in a variety of ways. Famous works include Hell, Great Dead Against the Dead, and Insult to Injury. This last work consisted of a series of Goya etchings with silly faces added over the top.

The ubiquitous controversy came most prominently in 2007 when Jake Chapman allegedly said that the two teenagers who murdered Jamie Bulger had performed "a good social service", a comment that, understandably, did not go down too well.
