Arctic Monkeys

We all know the story now, don’t we? Very young, from Sheffield, massive internet following, biggest selling British debut album in history, Mercury Music Prize, number one singles… The Arctic's story is a modern fairytale, complete with conspiracy theories that they couldn’t possibly write their own songs, and subsequently an attitude towards the media bordering on contempt.

They have wasted little time in recording new material, with a new album due out in April 2007. Continuing with their DIY ethos, the band showcased their new songs in a series of secret gigs across the country, their first since a lacklustre set at Reading 2006.

Though the stratospheric rise tempered somewhat with mediocre singles and the departure of founding bassist Andy Nicholson, they went on to pick up two Brit Awards for Best British Album and Best British Group in 2008. Recently, their third album Humbug was released in August 2009 to coincide with headline appearances at both Reading and Leeds festivals with Zane Lowe naming track 'Pretty Visitors' as the 'Hottest Record in the World' during the first week of August.
