Deptford foursome Athlete emerged in 2003, their first album 'Vehicles and Animals' being an interesting and tuneful mix of indie rock and electronica.

Fast-forward two years, and the comeback single 'Wires' toppled all in its path, but it was clear they were aiming for the Coldplay/Snow Patrol market, sacrificing their quirkiness for radio-friendly ballads, crying out for mainstream acceptance.

Now they will inevitably settle into the territory marked 'safe' for the foreseeable future.
