Babyshambles

Is there man, woman or child in the land who isn’t aware of this band? Thrust in our faces by the media on a daily basis, Pete Doherty has become an icon for all the wrong reasons in the past few years. Libertine, tabloid pariah, figure of ridicule, fiancée to the world’s most famous supermodel, addict, prisoner, poet, rock idol…Pete has done it all.

Though he has faltered without his Libertines songwriting partner Carl Barat, Babyshambles have released some cracking singles, including ‘F**k Forever’, ‘Albion’ and ‘The Blinding’, and where they were a liability of a live act in the early days who would rarely turn up on time, if at all, they have become a well-oiled machine of late.

Whatever the red-tops say, Pete Doherty is one of the most talented tunesmiths of his generation, and though the songs are often hidden behind a fog of drugs, fights and court appearances, he does at least retain the rock n roll spirit that is so lacking in most of today’s safe corporate rock. And the guitarist drinks in our local, so we like them.
