1980s legacy Depeche Mode is an English electronic band with the unfortunate claim to fame of being the best selling band to have never had a single reach number one on the UK charts. Despite that minor setback, they have consistently been one of the most successful British bands having sold over 91 million records to date.
The original band was made up of Dave Gahan, Martin L. Gore, Andy Fletcher and Vince Clarke. In 1981, Clarke left Depeche Mode and went on to form a number of other bands including Erasure. He was replaced by Alan Wilder who was an official member from 1982 until 1995.
Depeche Mode have been most influential in the electronic music scene.
