Eric Clapton

Thanks to stints in Cream, The Yardbirds and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Eric Clapton (CBE) has been recognised as one of the world's premier guitarists even before he launched his solo career in the mid-1970.

Famed for his self-deprecation almost as much as his skill on the frets, Clapton's music has helped define the worlds of hard rock and easy listening and he has produced several iconic songs including the ubiquitous 'Layla' (which is on pretty much every driving compilation ever put together).

Out of respect for our dads, we won't mention the whole Enoch Powell thing...
