Gaz Mayall

Read our exclusive Gaz Mayall interview

Gaz is the man behind the iconic Thursday night soul, ska and blues night Gaz' Rockin Blues, the longest-running club in London. Every week at St Moritz he spins rare reggae, ska, punk and blues for a Soho crowd. He also plays live shows with his Celtic-tinged ska ban The Trojans.

Every summer, Gaz gears up for the Notting Hill Carnival, where the Rockin Blues stages has one of the best locations, right in the middle of the route. He's had everyone from Prince Buster to Madness to the Skatalites at his system, a well-loved carnival fixture since 1982.

Gaz has been a fixture on the London scene since he was a teenager, growing up in the shadow of his bluesbreaker father John Mayall but developing his own passions for Jamaican ska and reggae. He is a madcap figure with a face that's been through twenty years of consecutive late nights, and a scattergun style, but in a quiet way he knows as much about the history of London's soul, punk and reggae sceenes as anyone. Rightly so: he's been a part of it.
