Ginger Baker

The most influential percussionist of the 1960's, Ginger Baker remains a true legend of rock. He was arguably the first superstar drummer, with a reputation based solely on his talent and ability to strike a beat. Hundreds of drummers have since tried to emulate his style or elements of his playing.

His passion for music saw him touring full-time by the age of 16, playing in several different bands, and modeling himself as somewhat of a beatnik.

In 1964 he approached Eric Clapton, with whom he had a fleeting acquaintance, in order to collaborate and perform together. Along with Jack Bruce, they went on to form Cream who were signed by Reaction Records. Cream was massively successful and became one of the most influential rock bands of the era, but couldn't last long with the egos involved and broke up two years later.

Baker went on to form Blind Faith and Ginger Baker's Air Force, and played with a number of stars including Paul McCartney's Wings.
