Green Day

Green Day have managed to do what every punk band wishes they could. They've made it big. Well, I say big, big's an understatement. Green Day are huge. Some might even say bigger than Jesus. Which is possibly what lead singer Billie-Joel Armstrong actually thinks.

Having gone from being one of the major bands on the independent punk scene, Green Day signed with record label Reprise in 1994. Although this was considered 'selling-out', the band pushed forward and a few months later, 'Dookie' was released. The album was a huge success. And when I say huge, I mean huge.

Despite continuing success, no Green Day album has yet improved upon the success of 'Dookie'. However, the band's latest outing, 'American Idiot', threw the band back into the limelight. Several arena dates and festival appearances later and they were confirmed as one of the live bands to see.

Over 20 years after they were formed, Green Day are still working towards a worrying ambition for world domination and hence have lost their popularity within the 'punk' crowd. Their music may be a little more pop than it was, and their wardrobe more thought-out, but somewhere in there is the band we knew and loved.
