Hockey

A bunch of Roxy Music referencing indie kids from Portland, Oregon, Hockey make breezy electro -tinted indie pop that you can't help but smile and nod your head to.

Reminding us of Bob Dylan, Bowie and Brian Eno era Talking Heads in equal amounts, it's worth keeping an eye on these guys, they might go far.

Hockey - Too Fake

Expectations are sharpened along the electro-disco punk line as soon as the opening beats (looped and stuttering) and bassline (a drawling, slippery little hook) kick in.

'Too Fake' seems to be flitting around the made-up mark of an amped-up, eyebrow-raised LCD Soundsystem until Ben Grubin's Dylan-dipped posturing vocals throw the track into Les Savy Fav/Rapture territory. There's a little freshness, a little newness, but, for the most part, it feels like a cut and paste effort.

Hockey – Learn To Lose
Virgin

I'm completely indifferent to this song. It's OK, I guess, if you like that kind of thing.

I'm therefore having trouble thinking of anything to say about it, so I'm going to take some tips from Hockey, who seem to have had trouble coming up with lyrics for the verse, and just repeat 'I don't know what to do' over and over again. I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do... 2/5
