Ike Turner, born on the 5th November 1931 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, is a legendary bandleader, musician and one time husband to Tina Turner.Ike formed his first band; The Kings Of Rhythm in the 40’s and recorded at Sun Studios.
The band as well as recording their own material also worked as session musicians backing artists such as Howlin' Wolf.Ike married Tina in 1958 shortly after she joined the band as singer. Ike predominantly wrote music in the soul or rhythm and blues style and had big hits with singles such as ‘Tra La La La La’.
By the end of the sixties Tina had started to produce solo work although Ike’s name was still linked to her work ‘River Deep Mountain High’ was produced by Phil Spector with no input from Ike, but his name still appeared as a co-artist.
After the couple divorced in 1976, Ike’s particular career curve seemed to be permanently on a downward trajectory, however he has recently reformed the Kings of Rhythm and continues to tour and record.
