Noted for the surprising choice of sample - Westlife's 'Written In the Stars' - in his eventual Top #10 hit 'Stay With Me', MC, singer and DJ Ironik has done pretty well for a 20-year old self starter, having garnered something of a fierce underground following through the usual culprits (myspace and Channel U) and a tour with So Solid Crew when he was just 16.
His music reflects the post-Kayne West drive to integrate elements of hip hop and grime into mainstream pop culture and such intentions are not WHOLLY unsuccessful. You get the impression it's triumph enough for him to sample artists like Elton John and Westlife at all - but how much better would it be if it didn't end there?
